A lifelong passion for antiques (including religious artifacts) and for stitching is summed up rather magnificently in this picture I found a few days ago in a second hand shop. It's a beautiful stitchwork on silk done in the form of an Ex-voto with GR (Grazia ricevuta = grace received), the stitcher's monogramm and some rosebuds.
I have never before seen an Ex-voto done in this form. The most common ones are either a token in the form of a heart or a body part in silver or other metal or a painting describing the episode in which the grace was received. They are either offered to a church or to a sanctuary to thank the Vergin Mary or a particular Saint.
